The story of Christophe Semaska begins in 1988 when he started the restoration of the renowned Château de Montlys. Montlys was once part of one of France's most famous castles, Château d’Ampuis. Later, the estates were redistributed, and both castles were separated. This gave him ownership of the most northern vineyards of the Rhône and one of the most enviable terroirs of Côte-Rôtie. Since then, there has been a continuously evolving path towards perfection, striving to achieve the ultimate expression of Syrah and Viognier. The wines are gems, intended for special occasions, with unparalleled class and complexity. After the First World War (1914-1918) and the devastating phylloxera plague of the previous century, Château de Montlys disappeared from many dining tables for 70 years. But since Christophe took over the estate, there has been only one ambition: to reach the absolute pinnacle of the northern Rhône. Those who have had the privilege of enjoying his delicacies know that these are no ordinary wines. "Qui sait deguster du vin ne boit plus de vin … mais goûte des secrets!" (Salvador Dali)
